Out of the Dojo and into the world.......

One of our main goals is to have our students apply the lessons learned at our school to not only better thier lives, but the lives of others. We choose several projects each year to help us stay focused on this goal and to enrich our community.

Kids Kicking Cancer Project 2010: Our school put on a bake sale, and martial arts olympics event to raise money for a young girl living in Hickory who is battling cancer. Thanks to all of our parents, students and friends who came out and made this a great event. With everyone's help we were able to raise over 1,000 dollars that went directly to this very special young lady! 

Community Outreach Project: Starting in November 2010 our school took on the task of helping at risk youth in our community by offering free martial arts classes to children who would not normally be able to attend our  classes. This class also serves as a leadership project by allowing students from our academy to paricipate as instructors and assistants in this program to help them develop organizational, leadership, and mentoring skills.   

Acts of Kindness Project 2010: Our students were given the task of recording 50 acts of kindness that the did outside of our school. Our goal is to reach 3000 recorded acts before Christmas 2010. Check back soon to see our progress on this project!

Cookies for Cancer 2011: Miss Pam, along with the help of several of our students and families, organized and ran a cookie fundraiser to raise money and awareness for Sarcoma. Sarcome is a form of cancer which has no cure and affects children all over the world. Through thier efforts they were able to raise $700 to go towards research to help find a cure for this horrible disease.  

Fighting for our friends in Japan 2011: The school hosted a sparring seminar to raise funds for those in need after the Earthquake, and Tsunami in Japan. We were able to raise funds for the redcross through the donations of all the participants in the seminar.

Soles for souls shoedrive 2011: Our school collected over 80 pairs of shoes to be distrubted all over the world to persons in need! Check out the amazing things you can do with your old shoes here: www.soles4souls.com!

Canned Food Drive: We have an ongoing canned food drive to benifit the cooperative christian ministry here in town. We have raised over 100 cans of food for persons in need in our community so far!

Community Cleanup Project:  Five students in our leadership camp are raising awarness about keeping our community clean by asking people to help clean up their neighborhoods on a weekend long clean up challenge.

Diabties Awareness Project: Five students are raising awarness about Diabetes in our community by raising money for diabetes supplies through a decorated box at our karate school, Hickory Academy. The money will go to the Cooperative Christian Ministry to help people who can't afford their diabetes supplies.
